Nine students from the Faculty of Design have arrived in India to start the three-week Design Abroad: India course. Since the program began in 2013, this is the fourth cohort of OCAD U students to travel to India to engage in participatory, multi-disciplinary design projects with community-based organizations.

Follow the students on their journey as they co-design live projects by visiting the course blog.

Over the next three weeks, students will be posting about their daily activities and sharing their reflections about the projects and their experiences traveling and designing in India. We, the undersigned members of the Provost’s Taskforce on Indigenous Learning, join together to express our solidarity with the family of Colten Boushie, the Plains Cree/Nehiyiw community of Red Pheasant First Nation, and Indigenous people across Canada who are reeling this week in shock, grief, anger and despair following the acquittal of Gerald Stanley.

This past December, the Consulate General of Canada hosted a group exhibition in Dubai’s foremost arts hub, Alserkal Avenue, as part of the Canada 150 program. The exhibition included works by OCAD U alumni, Sara Pearson and Camille Jodoin-Eng, as well as Canadian artists, Arwa Abouon, KC Adams, Babak Golkar.
On behalf of OCAD University, I offer deep condolences to the Baptiste/Boushie family and the people of Red Pheasant Reserve, and mourn the loss of a young man described by his mother as gentle and optimistic. We agree with Justice Minister Jody Wilson-Raybould when she says “Canada must do better.”
