On Thursday, November 2, Yorkville Village and OCAD University launched the fourth annual Yorkville Village Arts Festival with a gala evening.
The festival (November 3 to 8) showcased 60 original contemporary art pieces created by 28 OCAD U students and recent graduates. The artworks were chosen through a rigorous jury process spanning a range of practices including photography, sculpture, painting, digital media and video installation.
Activities over the weekend included live painting demonstrations and opportunities to meet some of the artists.
One of the standout pieces included a collaborative work by OCAD U alumnus Hudson Christie and more than 200 students from Jesse Ketchum Public School. The students created representations of themselves with hardened polymer clay and the figures were assembled on a green playing field, representing a playground. A large photograph of the work was auctioned off, with proceeds going to the school.
